Mark's Newsletter October 2019

Warm greetings from Kaabong .The weather here has been good for farming and some farming is being done for food security and so we have that to thank God for. One would wonder why am
talking about food but it’s by far the biggest deal here. Humanly speaking the social problems are many and with my background I don’t even know what the solution could be, but from what I have learnt from scripture is that the root of all our problems is our disobedience to the creator, the rest are symptoms and I have seen it to be true in my life. A case would be that people literally starve to death while herding their cows to greener pastures and I am thinking, whose food are they going to eat?

I am serving alongside Timothy and we have set out to see some churches planted starting with one in Lotim, a distance of about 26 kilometres from where we stay. Peter who is our contact in Lotim has been helpful in seeing the church grow by helping to mobilise for prayers and other gatherings for evangelism. The Anglican Church in Kaabong town has also been receptive to seeing the church grow and we do work together in seeing the church plant of Lotim stand. We are also meeting the lay readers of the church to do bible study and encourage each other to see the Karamajong reached with the gospel.

In some societies we have Christianity outlawed and in others it is in law but interestingly there are places where there is no actual feeling about it and this is because these societies do not know what exactly Christianity is about. So Christianity or the church presence has survived because it actually comes bearing gifts but doesn’t challenge these societies on what they believe about God. Now there’s nothing wrong with gifts but I know for a fact that this is not the Christian message. Christianity starts with a message of repentance. Acknowledging our disobedience against one
whom we should have trusted for our very lives. Then at this point we can humble ourselves, turn to God and be healed so that we can worship. Now this is the area where missionaries work, to tell of this story of God making every effort to redeem his disobedient children.

God has reached out to save his disobedient children in every way but we have continued in our disobedience and now he has finally sent his son. Missionaries get to share this message and then
invite these disobedient children to take a stand with their father. This is where I am going to ask for prayer for every missionary out there who is faced with the challenge of how to reach out and
preach this message with clarity and hope that the people who are looking for a saviour will find one in Jesus Christ.

I want to thank you for your continued support in this work especially financially and for the prayers that you make for us. We can trust that He listens to our prayers and responds to them. Thank you for the feedback on how to reach out with the good news.

Mark K.
